Nevertheless, the books were highly enjoyable and I found myself immersed in this world of kingdoms, unforgettable romance, power-hungry and unforgiving enemies, and the sheer suspense and unpredictability of this duology.ĭance of Thieves and its sequel Vow of Thieves is a series that is heavily based on romance, and while it was a cliche romance between two adversaries from two different kingdoms, I really loved them together as a couple and their struggle. I had not read The Remnant Chronicles and found some of the history particularly confusing at times– the war with the Komizar in Venda and this traitor/enemy called the Watch Captain who had murdered much of the Queen of Venda’s family whom Kazi and her two best friends: Wren and Synové had been sent on a mission to find in Dance of Thieves. My only qualm I had with the first book: Dance of Thieves is that it is a bit confusing to read at times because it assumes that readers are familiar with The Remnant Chronicles where this world was introduced.

You fall in love and emphatise with the characters, feel burning anger and sense of injustice towards adversaries, swoon over the epic romance between Jase Ballenger and Kazi of Brightmist-the books’ main protagonists…etc. Pearson does a meticulous, brilliant job at creating a very believable world of different kingdoms and its history filled with maps and peoples and events that made this story come to life on the page. It kept me reading well into the early hours of the morning and I did drag out the final book as I just did not want it to ever end.

Pearson is one of the most underrated writers in the YA/NA fantasy genre which is quite upsetting as I think her books deserve a lot more credit and recognition than what they’ve been getting.ĭance of Thieves and its sequel Vow of Thieves was breathtaking, a suspenseful rollercoaster that made you feel hooked on each page and filled with a myriad of different emotions. I picked up Dance of Thieves at the bookstore with my September book haul because someone I used to know recommended it on their instagram and we always had the same taste in books so I decided to check it out.Īll I can say, after finishing the sequel: Vow of Thieves, why in the world did I not discover this series before ? That being said, I think Mary E. I had vaguely heard of The Remnant Chronicles before and remember seeing the covers previously on Goodreads but had never read them. I went into this duology without being familiar with Mary Pearson’s writing.
